SciFest, Ireland’s largest STEM fair (STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), is now calling for entries for its 2025 regional events. This prestigious competition celebrates innovation and creativity in the sciences, offering students the chance to showcase their scientific projects in front of a large audience. With events held across the country, SciFest allows young minds to explore and engage in various scientific disciplines, ranging from physical sciences to life sciences and technology.

The 2025 regional events will take place across 16 different locations throughout Ireland, and two of these events will be held in the Midlands. The first of these regional fairs will take place on April 9th, 2025, at TUS Athlone, marking an exciting debut for the Midlands. The second event will be hosted by SETU Carlow, although the exact date is yet to be confirmed. These events will provide students from across the region with the opportunity to present their projects, gain valuable feedback from experts, and compete for a spot in the SciFest National Final.

SciFest is known for its focus on encouraging students from all backgrounds and circumstances to participate. The competition is designed to showcase the best of Ireland’s emerging talent in the fields of science and technology, offering students a platform to explore their potential and creativity. The projects displayed at the regional fairs will cover a wide range of scientific fields, giving young people the chance to engage with the latest technologies and discoveries.

The regional winners will progress to the SciFest National Final in November 2025, where the best projects from all over the country will be showcased. The overall winner of the national event will have the unique opportunity to represent Ireland at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the United States. ISEF is one of the largest and most prestigious science fairs in the world, and it provides students with a global platform to present their research and connect with peers and experts in their respective fields.

The deadline for entries is fast approaching, with all submissions due by March 12th, 2025. SciFest has been a key player in nurturing young talent in Ireland for the past 20 years, and this year’s event will mark the 20th anniversary of the competition. Founder and CEO of SciFest, Sheila Porter, emphasises the importance of student participation, stating: “I would urge all students to get involved and enter, no matter your background or circumstance, to explore the wonderful world of STEM and all it has to offer.”

The competition is open to students from secondary schools and other educational institutions across Ireland, and SciFest encourages the participation of students from all educational backgrounds. It is an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in scientific research, critical thinking, and project development.
