Re:    Right2Water National March Dublin 20th February

Colleagues,

It is time for one final push!   All CPSU members who have felt the brunt of imposed Austerity Measures and who wish to make a point to the establishment can do so this coming Saturday 20th of February in Dublin. The Right2Water unions including UNITE, Mandate, Communications Workers Union (CWU), OPATSI, the TEEU and the CPSU have organised a peaceful protest to allow workers to voice their opinion against the water charges and the privatisation of the utility. The Irish Congress of Trade Unions at the recent conference in 2015 also rejected the imposition of water charges on citizens.

  • The establishment including media organisations believe that the issue has gone off the agenda. The Right2Water campaign know that the refusal by the majority of citizens to withhold payment to Irish Water is telling a different story.
  • The campaign has also revealed that 78% of the costs of establishing Irish Water has been loaded on to households with the remaining costs being met by business and agriculture. However, business and agriculture account for the majority of use of water services.
  • The refusal by the last Government to allow for a constitutional referendum to protect the utlility from being sold to private enterprise clearly indicates the desire to privatise the utility and get rid of the headache whilst providing money to reduce the massive bank debts incurred in the name of Irish citizens by reckless bankers.

CPSU members have a chance to make it clear to those who will listen and make them take notice of your voice by taking part in the peaceful and entertaining demonstration this coming Saturday 20th February. The march will assemble at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin at 2 p.m. It will proceed through the city to assemble again at the stage in College Green in front of the Grattan memorial. This union looks forward to your support and participation in this event.

Yours fraternally
Des Fagan
